Start with the vehicle platform and powertrain. This distinction is essential because fitment work may affect lead time, packaging, vehicle dimensions, insurance values, and documentation. Inventory availability shifts, manufacturers revise grades, customers update color preferences, and destination rules may be clarified after an initial inquiry. The goal is not to eliminate changes. It is to control them through a documented approval process.
Any revision to the specification should be recorded against the purchase order and checked for effects on price, lead time, compliance, freight, and documentation. A simple verbal approval is rarely enough when multiple departments are preparing a bulk export shipment. The revised specification should identify what changed, why it changed, and who authorized it.
